The delegate will be able to:-

  • Understand the basic principles of lay flat hose construction
  • Perform different methods of hose running practical’s
  • Branch control
  • Operate hose management in a confined area

Course Content:

  1. Introduction (including a safety brief)
  2. Basic operations of the appliance
  3. How to operate power take off
  4. Basic principles of low pressure delivery
  5. Basic principles of high pressure delivery
  6. The correct methods of running hose out, conventional and ‘Dutch roll’
  7. Hose  management in a confined space
  8. Lifting hose aloft
  9. Correct methods of branch holding
  10. Limitations of high pressure hose
  11. Coupling and uncoupling of high pressure hose
  12. Ground monitors

Recommended for: All staff  that need to be competent in the operation of a Major Pump

Duration: 1 Day (0830 – 1630)

Certification: Training Portfolio inclusive of updates and assessments included.

Cost: Min 6 – Max 8 delegates £208.00 per delegate (plus VAT)

Can be delivered on site with your equipment or at a Fire and Rescue Service Training Centre inclusive of equipment hire (your own PPE required)


  • Full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Major pump
  • 70mm and 45mm hose
  • Suitable open water supply
  • Hand control branches

(Equipment can be provided at one of our Fire and Rescue Service training centres across Norfolk)


Note: Due to the physical nature if the course delegates will need to be physically fit and will be required to complete a medical questionnaire prior to training.

Norfolk Safety CIC reserve the right to refuse training should a delegate fail to meet Health & Safety requirements or have a medical condition/issue that could result in potential difficulties when training. (Full charges could apply)
